Sean Miller

As Lead Pastor, Sean is passionate about communicating the ancient wisdom of the Scriptures in compelling and practical ways and helping people enter into the story that God is writing—one in which they are a character in the grand narrative and redemptive plan of our creator. Sean believes that the role of a shepherd is a great gift and privilege.

As a leader in pastoral ministry since 1993, Sean has been invested in the art of guiding a faith community, especially its core leaders, toward greater levels of health, connection with God, and love toward others. Over the years, Sean has spent time working with students, families, and executive teams. He is a mentor, consultant, and enthusiast for other leaders and seeks to invest in the emerging generation.

Sean has been married to Holly for 26 years. They both grew up in San Jose and have three children, Mackenzie (23), Michaela (21), and Caden (17). They both love to travel, hike, read, watch movies, and spend time laughing with friends. In his spare time, Sean loves to drink good coffee, run, cycle, take long walks and long naps.

Sean studied Bible and Theology at San Jose Christian College (now William Jessup University) and Transformational Leadership at Bethel Seminary. He has also served as Adjunct Faculty at William Jessup University, teaching The Art of Biblical Interpretation, Discipleship Praxis, and Self-Leadership.

Jerry Bruce

Jerry has been a member of SFC since 1972. He has served SFC as a Deacon, Trustee, Elder, Treasurer, Sunday School Teacher and small group leader. Jerry has been on staff since 2001. Prior to joining SFC staff, Jerry’s career included being an auditor, controller, treasurer, CFO and consultant at various high tech firms in the area.

In 2015 Jerry obtained a Certificate in Christian Studies from Fuller Theological Seminary and later that year was commissioned by SFC to specialized ministry as the Minister of Church Operations. Jerry has been married to Mary Jane since 1980 and they have three children — Joshua, Shannon and David; with a daughter-in-law Lacey, son-in-law Jordan Williams, and daughter-in-law Giselle. Jerry has a Bachelors Degree in Accounting from CSULB. Jerry enjoys applying his gifts of helps and administration here at SFC.

Sally Bryant

Sally joined the staff in June 2008 bringing a passion to link education with those intentional practices designed to bring us closer to God. While the Silicon Valley lifestyle can encumber the one who seeks a more contemplative approach to a Christian walk, Sally believes it remains a key component of one desiring to be more like Christ.

Consequently, she looks forward to developing programs to affirm and support people in the most exciting journey ever taken: the journey to become more like Christ. Her love of education has been expressed through her pursuit of a Masters Degree in Educational Administration and a Doctoral Degree in Education with an emphasis on Organization and Leadership. She served for eleven years as an instructor and dean at two Christian colleges. From there, her journey took her to the corporate world of high tech where she was responsible for managing a global training program and directing marketing communications. She sees all of these experiences as preparation for being a part of staff at SFC and the unique calling available to her in this position.

The words of Jeremiah 29:11: “For I know the plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm you, plans to give you hope and a future,” come to her mind as she considers those she seeks to serve. It affirms the goodness of God she has come to know in her own life. It is her prayer that many will continue living in the light of that goodness and on into the future designed uniquely for each individual.

Arvin Engelson

My formative years were in Santa Barbara (CA), where I met my wife, Dale. We married in 1968, and enjoy three daughters: Corrie, Jessica and Gretchen. My first career took us to the east coast. For 8 years, I was a counselor at public and private colleges (in MD and MA). We also went east for graduate studies. I did my masters at Gordon-Conwell and my doctorate at Princeton (in MA and NJ).

In my role at SFC, I provide care, coaching and counseling. I do our assessment and referral, supervise our care staff and direct our care ministries. It has been fulfilling to serve the church and community for 42 years. My vocation allows me to see and assist many subtle and substantive forms of transformation. As a consequence, I highly value dialog with those who are at an impasse, captive to issues, in need of healing, or seek sufficient truth and grace to live in reality.

My religious roots are ecumenical. As a child, I was baptized Lutheran; as a youth, confirmed Presbyterian; as an adult, I worshiped as an Episcopalian. A reading of the gospels awakened me to the joy and wonder of faith. Quite suddenly, my heart believed, but my head had reservations. Intellectual honesty matters to me; and it took years for my head to catch up with my heart. As a consequence, I highly value dialog with doubters, agnostics and others for whom faith is difficult.

Life-forming texts include Psalm 33, Deuteronomy 6:4-9, Micah 6:8 in the Jewish scriptures; and Matthew 5:1-7:29, John 14:15-18, 26, Ephesians 4:1-7, 11-13 in the Christian scriptures.

Savoy Stevens

As Minister to Children and Families, Savoy is passionate about encouraging a sense of connection with God and facilitating personal transformational relationships with Jesus. She believes that a felt sense of God is developed within a loving and diverse community. This is the work of a “village.”

Her early years were spent in beautiful Chautauqua (NY) where she discovered a passion for the arts. In her first career, she taught Fine Arts at the elementary and high school levels. Savoy recently completed her Master’s of Divinity, with a concentration in Spiritual Formation and Discipleship, at Portland Seminary of George Fox University (OR). She is a certified spiritual director and enjoys accompanying individuals on their spiritual journey.

Savoy enjoys the company of her three children, Zander, Sage, and Shaelea. They all like adventures, sharing delicious meals and spending time laughing with friends. Books are Savoy’s “love language.” In her spare time, she likes exploring new places, new people, and new ideas – she also loves open water swimming.

Malia Clark

Malia is a proven leader with a gift for communication, bringing wise, relational leadership to our young people. Malia is also a compassionate individual who wants students to be accepted, loved, and connected to Jesus and one another.

Malia has years of experience in working with students—leading small and large groups and planning events, activities, and retreats. She participated in the Fuller Seminary Youth Institute and graduated from BIOLA University with a B.A. in Christian Education—Emphasis in Youth & Family Programs and a Minor in Biblical Studies. She is currently pursuing a Masters of Divinity.

Kyle Logan

As Minister of Worship and Creative Arts, Kyle envisions and builds vibrant and engaging worship experiences, both contemporary and traditional, for all Sunday morning gatherings and special events. Kyle is an accomplished musician with demonstrated team-building skills and a real heart for mentoring and equipping others to walk with the Lord on a daily basis.

Kyle has over 10 years of experience in worship leadership and professional musicianship. He and his wife Tawny have three children: Indy, Oliver, and Kit.

Ali Olivo

Hi! I’m Ali and I’m so excited to be the new Middle School Coordinator for Saratoga Federated Church! My family has been blessed by attending SFC for the past 9 years. Over those years, I have volunteered in Children’s Ministry, Childrens Worship, Kids Choir, VBS, Middle School and High School Ministry, and Grief Care Ministry. I also sing in the Choir and with the Contemporary Worship band. I absolutely love music! I also enjoy baking, hiking, going to the beach, and spending time with my family. My husband Art and I have been married for 14 years and met at our church when we were in Middle School. Our paths crossed again in our early 20’s and now we have 2 amazing children: Reef (14) and Kora (12).

I am looking forward to blessing our teens and tweens and helping grow their relationships with God and with each other.

Sarah Penzel

My remembered journey with God began right here at SFC, as a kid. I have since gone to college in Texas, taught school in Honduras, attended graduate school in Miami for Physical Therapy, and returned home to the neighborhood I grew up in to raise 3 great kids with my husband Brian.

I have had different spiritual seasons in each of those places – doubting, learning to love God with my mind, finding God in the desert, rich times of communion in community, walking in the dark, and a journey inward over the last few years. I graduated from Sustainable Faith’s school for Spiritual Direction in May 2021, where I learned so much about listening and journeying with people no matter what their season. I look forward to meeting, loving, caring for needs and encouraging people to be more fully themselves, both at Saratoga Federated and beyond, as a part of the Care Ministry Team.

Please know I am here to welcome you in whatever season you or a neighbor or friend finds themselves- the ‘door’ is always open if you want to call or email!

Eric and his wife, Tracy, raised their three daughters at SFC. Saratoga Federated Church has been an instrumental part of Eric’s life, and the relationships and experiences have been a source of joy from the beginning. Eric owns his own business in Santa Clara and enjoys work, playing soccer and traveling.

The Apostles Creed

I believe in God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth; and in Jesus Christ His only Son our Lord; who was conceived by the Holy Spirit, born of the Virgin Mary, suffered under Pontius Pilate, was crucified, dead, and buried. He descended into hell; the third day He rose again from the dead. He ascended into heaven and sits on the right hand of God the Father Almighty; from thence he shall come to judge the quick and the dead.

I believe in the Holy Spirit, the holy catholic church, the communion of saints, the forgiveness of sins, and resurrection of the body and the life everlasting. Amen.

Barb Clark

Barb and her husband Chris joined SFC over thirty years ago and raised their four children at the church. She has loved being part of the Body of Christ here, and especially treasures various Life Group and ministry experiences.

She recently retired after 21 years of teaching and now is able to spend more time with her adult “kids,” their spouses, and her seven grandchildren. She loves days at the beach, reading a good book, praying for and with others, and gathering with friends.

Morgan Griffith

Morgan has attended SFC since 2005. His wife Stephanie grew up at the church and teaches at SFC’s Village Preschool. They have teenage twins who are currently active in the Lifehouse ministry.

Morgan has fond memories of his childhood church where multiple generations worshiped together and cared for each other; for this reason, SFC felt like home to him from the start. He has co-led high school boys’ Bible studies and currently helps with the Sunday evening Lifehouse gatherings. Morgan is a civil engineer and enjoys running, walking his dog and watching English soccer.

Carol Presunka

Carol, her husband Peter and their 3 children have been attending SFC for about 20 years. They were introduced to the church by the Lillo family, in particular Debbie, who created Bridge Builders for families such as theirs, who have children with special needs who can’t attend regular church.

They moved here from Canada where Carol worked in telecommunications, but once here, volunteer work became her passion. She has worked for a non-profit, helping families with disabilities, served on the Board of the Alternating Hemiplegia of Childhood Foundation and currently is a School Board Trustee.  She enjoys traveling, reading and spending time with friends.

Matthew Robinson

Matthew and his family are originally from Mississippi. Matthew joined SFC five years ago with his wife, Allison, who now serves as Childcare Coordinator for the Children’s Ministry. They have three children growing with Saratoga Federated: Elisabeth, Joshua, and Charlie.

Matthew also serves at SFC in the Children’s Ministry. He has worked in various technology related fields and currently works as an Infrastructure Engineer. Matthew enjoys reading, following his children’s activities, and occasionally playing the trumpet whenever he can.

While at SFC, Scott has regularly attended a men’s Bible study on Tuesday mornings, helped with the Men’s Breakfasts, and attended the Adult Sunday School class where, after a few years, he began teaching the class. In his professional career, he spent 40 years as an electrical engineer designing analog integrated circuits in the IC industry. He retired from electrical engineering in June of 2020. Diana’s dedication and talent spring from her decades of hands-on experience as a community organizer and her deeply personal commitment to improve the lives of some of our society’s most challenged populations. For six years early in her career, Diana utilized her skills in San Francisco’s Tenderloin District, improving quality of life in housing, transportation, medical and safety issues for seniors there.

As an experienced non-profit executive, Diana has recruited, motivated and managed hundreds of volunteer leaders from diverse backgrounds, building their skills in community engagement, creative commitment and fund-raising. The Nicene Creed

I believe in one God the Father Almighty, maker of heaven and earth, and of all things visible and invisible:

And in one Lord Jesus Christ, the only-begotten Son of God, begotten of His Father before all worlds, God of God, Light of Light, very God of very God, begotten not made, being of one substance with the Father, by whom all things were made.

Who for us men and for our salvation came down from heaven, and was incarnate by the Holy Spirit of the Virgin Mary, and was made man and crucified also for us under Pontius Pilate;

He suffered and was buried, and the third day he rose again according to the scriptures, and ascended into heaven, and sits on the right hand of the Father; And He shall come again with glory to judge both the quick and the dead: Whose kingdom shall have no end.

And I believe in the Holy Spirit, the Lord and Giver of life, who proceeds from the Father and the Son; who with the Father and Son together is worshiped and glorified; who spoke by the prophets.

And I believe in one united and apostolic church; I acknowledge one baptism for the remission of sins, and I look for the resurrection of the dead, and the life of the world to come. Amen.
